Savi was born out of experiences had by CEO/Founder Brock Weeks, when working for another security/smart home company. As he negotiated with restaurant executives, he realized an opportunity: data-driven insights provided through audio and video surveillance technology. It turned out that multi-location owners were really excited about using alarm technology to see when their stores opened and closed, or just how well corporate trainings were being executed across their many locations.

Now Savi is helping restaurants all over the country stay safe and use their video and audio data to make better business decisions, and Brock was kind enough to come on “Give An Ovation” to share some knowledge:

1. Data –> Questions –> Solutions

Data on its own doesn’t do anything. Its only useful when it leads to real changes in your business. As Brock put it, “We all need data to make decisions. Typically data just leads to questions. If you have good data, it should point you to where questions need to be answered.”

2. If You Use Video Systems, Be Open About It

You might be hesitant to record what’s going on in your location, because you don’t want to “spy” on or break trust with your employees. But as Brock explained, people typically only feel like they’re being spied on if it’s happening secretly. Employees will be fine when they are told up front about surveillance and the benefits of the system are explained: preventing false accusations, rewarding good behavior, and removing the bad apples from the team that they don’t want around anyway.

3. Define Stealing

There are blatant examples of employees stealing from a restaurant such as literally emptying the cash register or kitchen. But many employees are taking money from the company in ways they don’t even consider to be theft like using their discount for family and friends.

4.  Pay Attention To The Small Details

Even if you can’t afford a whole surveillance system, you can still track patterns in your data and look for what’s causing them at your locations. Admittedly, this is a lot easier with solutions like Savi, but it can still be done.

5. Take Advantage Of This Opportunity

COVID-19 has given restaurateurs an opportunity to revamp their customer experiences. Customers will be expecting more when they finally come back to your restaurant, so make sure you’re ready!
