Box 8 Creative Studio is a hospitality-focused brand studio based in New Haven, Connecticut. They’ve learned a lot recently by guiding restaurants through the COVID-19 pandemic, and their Owner and Creative Director, Jeremy Staub, came on this edition of “Give an Ovation” to share what he’s seen help restaurants step into the new normal:
1. Be Transparent and Fun
Let’s be clear: you need to be clear. Customers don’t have a problem with a 90-minute table limit as long as they hear about it before they sit down, and not on minute 87. Rules will also be received better if they’re presented in a lighthearted way. “The more communication you have, the more willing they’ll be to work with you”, said Jeremy.
2. Create Unique Content Online
There’s an increase in media consumption due to quarantine, so now is a great time to create on social media. But for posts to catch on, they need to be unique, and unique to you. They need to reflect the awesome, distinctive aspects of your brand. As Jeremy put it, “Everybody’s doing Taco Tuesday.”
3. At Least Try Pay-Per-Click
Some are tentative to run PPC ads, but Jeremy recommends at least giving it a shot. It’s not that expensive to test out either; you can see results by only spending $30. If you do, try and include something like a first-time coupon to help measure the impact of the ad.
4. Dive Right In
When asked for his one piece for restaurant owners, Jeremy said to embrace COVID-19 and go all in, rather than hide from it or ignore it. Doing so will lead to innovation, and customers want to see change right now. Good luck!
